I'm pretty sure this is discrimination...

I'm applying for a Civil Service job. You have to provide proof of identity. So far, so good. However, they want 3 forms of identity, and they divide what bits of paper are acceptable into 3 categories. They want one from each category.

Category 1 - I have several things I can supply. Tick!
Category 2 - I have several things I can supply. Tick!
Category 3 - WTF? I'm not married, not in a civil partnership, not in the military and don't drive. So the ONLY form of ID they will accept in this category is a short form birth certificate. Which I don't have. Which I'd never even heard of until today.

So if you aren't married, a driver or in the Armed Forces, there's only one bit of paper which is acceptable.

I've spent the last 2 hours going round in circles on various Scottish websites (including the one the Scottish Gov points you at) which will provide copies of birth certificate for a fee. They either say they only do long form certificates or simply don't say, just referring to "the certificate".

I'm currently trying to find out if Scotland even does short form certificates...

UPDATE: They are called 'abbreviated birth certificates' in Scotland! So if you are Scottish, they don't want you to apply for English Civil Service jobs??? :-)
