Two Mongoose Traveller bundles, with three more to come later in the week! One of these is a repeat, the other new: the revived December 2024 Mongoose Traveller Update Bundle, with the core rulebook and useful supplements, and a new bundle, Traveller Imperial Navy, with sourcebooks and adventures for the Third Imperium space fleet.

TRAVELLER IMPERIAL NAVY (new)

This is apparently going to be Mongoose Traveller week, with 5 bundles coming in all - the reason being that May 1st is Traveller Day, because the 1977 edition had a "Mayday" message on the cover. In my opinion it's about the best version (Unless you're a GURPS fan or are waiting for the forthcoming D&D Traveller which is apparently going to be a thing, but I suspect not one that interests me)

Since they've chosen to release these bundles now because of the date, I'm wondering if there will be something in a galaxy far, far away for May 4th...

This is a bundle of material in the "Voidrunner's Codex Special" featuring a spacefaring expansion for D&D 5E and Level Up from EN Publishing.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Voidrunners

The idea is to use the D&D or compatible rules for SF adventures; it's aimed primarily at SF-only campaigns, but designed so that combinations of SF and fantasy can be used.

This isn't actually something I need, since I already have plenty of SF games and settings including several I've written myself, but if you're mostly familiar with D&D or Level Up this may be a good route to running SF adventures. It's reasonably priced and you're getting more than a gigabyte of material (admittedly including a lot of deck plans etc.) and may be interesting to others who want to mine it for ideas, cool ship designs, etc.

Happy Wednesday!

I'm taking search offline sometime today to upgrade the server to a new instance type. It should be down for a day or so -- sorry for the inconvenience. If you're curious, the existing search machine is over 10 years old and was starting to accumulate a decade of cruft...!

Also, apparently these older machines cost more than twice what the newer ones cost, on top of being slower. Trying to save a bit of maintenance and cost, and hopefully a Wednesday is okay!

Edited: The other cool thing is that this also means that the search index will be effectively realtime afterwards... no more waiting a few minutes for the indexer to catch new content.

Recent research has shown that some fatal diseases in garden birds are spread by bird feeders.  The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) stopped selling bird tables several years ago, and have now issued guidelines on what times of our one should not feed at all, and how often seed and suet feeders should be disinfected.

After thinking about it, I've taken down my feeders.  They were getting very little use in recent years, and when I'm unwell, I can't clean them regularly enough.

I still have plenty of plants that attract insects, and a tree with rough bark where I often see small birds looking for food.

This is a bundle for the RPG Land of Eem, the "whimsical tabletop fantasy roleplaying game of colorful characters exploring the Mucklands from Star & Flame Games and Exalted Funeral." The elevator pitch is "Lord of the Rings meets The Muppets as whimsical adventurers young and old make perilous journeys across the Mucklands"

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/LandOfEem

The rules emphasise role playing and negotiation, while still allowing for combat where necessary, and the most dangerous monsters of the game are tycoons who dominate and exploit everyone else. Any resemblance to modern life is, of course, purely coincidental.

I'm not convinced it's one I want to play, but there are some fun ideas and it's fairly cheap, and if you like whimsical settings it's probably worth a look.

This is the a repeat offer of the Fellowship Bundle which presents (for a third time!) the Liberi Gothica Games FRPG of heroism against world-shattering odds, Fellowship.

https://bundleofholding.com/presents/Fellow2026

The first time this was offered I said: "I have to be honest here - I've been "off" fantasy RPGs for a long time, and am not a huge fan of the Apocalypse Engine rules set. And the subject matter doesn't really appeal much, in my experience the most epic thing about most epic quests is how badly they get screwed up once the players are in the mix. Having looked at some of this material, I don't feel that it is especially well presented - the overwhelming impression I got from some of it was clutter, too much crammed into too small a space. Admittedly one of my recent reviews complained about another bundle where it seemed that there was not enough content per page, but there needs to be a balance, and I'm not sure it's been achieved here. This isn't really something I want. But if you've been thinking of running a huge epic quest campaign it's possible that this is exactly what you need, so don't let me stop you!

Unfortunately my opinion hasn't changed much. More books were added when this was last offered in 2023 (if you previously bought the first version of the full bundle you should have got the new books free) which extends the possibilities of this series, but I'm still not very interested.
